APPLICATIONS

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED
Player Cap: 29/70

RESERVES | APPS

Before you submit your application, please review the Applications and Reserves section of the info / faq page, as there are additional rules regarding malleable protagonists, CRAU characters, fandom OCs, canon caps, player caps, and other important things to note.

Applications will be processed in the order they are received and after the application cycle closes. We will only accept as many players as we have player slots, however, we will review all applications submitted during the cycle. Application cycles are not first come first serve, and instead will be judged on clarity of the app and samples.

Application revisions will have three days to submit adjustments. If not submitted in time, they will have to wait until the next application cycle to resubmit.

Application rejections will have to wait until the next application cycle to resubmit unless otherwise specified in the original rejection.

You may either post your application in a comment to this post, or link to it from your character journal.

Please use the following format for your comment in the subject line:
CHARACTER | CANON | RESERVED / NOT RESERVED

There is a limit of 2 characters initially maximum that can be played. (You can redeem additional character slots by way of the rewards page.) As with reservations, you may apply for 2 characters at a time.

Proxy applications are not accepted.

We do not accept application challenges.

We do not accept duplicate characters.

We only accept applications for 1 malleable protagonist in a cast. Malleable protagonists may not have preexisting relationships with other characters from their canon aside from base storyline. (Exceptions will potentially be made for CRAUs and handled on a case-by-case basis.)

Fandom OC characters are accepted, but may not have preexisting relationships with other characters from their canon. (Exceptions will potentially be made for CRAUs and handled on a case-by-case basis.)

CRAU characters are accepted, however, must not be so removed from their original canon state that they are unrecognisable. CRAU characters who carry a multitude of prior games may only carry over memories, relationships, and experiences from their most recent game.

Crime: All characters are accused of a crime upon their arrival, and it's printed on their indestructible parchment. This crime can be fitting of your character or ill-fitting. It can be a crime they've committed or a crime they would never commit. Consider that Expiation's definition of crimes may not mirror reflect what we think of when we consider crime in the real world. Feel free to think a little out of the box and more abstract. Fiction versus reality here doesn't so much make a difference. Please choose one crime, bearing in mind that there may be occasions in which the crime chosen could affect how a character interacts with certain events or situations.

Background: You may provide a link to a wiki, for canon characters. If your wiki has limited information, or your character may not have much canon behind them, you are expected to write supplemental details without leaning too heavily into headcanon. For OCs, you don't need to provide an overly verbose background, just enough to give an accurate portrayal of the world they come from and definitive experiences that are important to their character. For CRAUS, please specify additional information about what they are carrying over from their prior game. This can also be limited to definitive experiences and relationships.

Personality: Although this game heavily relies on the analysis and reflection of a character, we don't expect a dissertation. Please provide information on your character's motivations, how their relationships and experiences have affected or shaped them, and other related information. You may use character dialogue to further showcase this, but it's not expected. If you find it easier to use bullet point formats, feel free to do that. Please do not exceed 800 words.

Abilities: If your character has any special abilities (magic, weapon skills, and so on), please list them here. Remember that world-breaking abilities will be diluted.

Inventory: A list of inventory that your character is carrying on them can be put here. Characters will not have access to an infinite hammer space, so please only list things that would make sense for your character to be physically carrying.

Samples: Two recent samples from the last year are required and must adequately convey a character's voice. In a thread, we prefer at least five comments from you. At least one sample must be from the current TDM post. Other threads may be taken from bakerstreet, other games, or other memes.

During application review, not only will we be judging for characterization, but also longevity and completion of threads. Not all threads have to be finished before being submitted, but the mod team would like to see an effort in furthering the thread if it's not completed.

Questions: If you have any questions for the mod team, please include them here and we will address them during the processing of your application.

AIGIS | PERSONA 3 | RESERVED

[personal profile] pallasathena 2024-04-23 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Audrey
Contact: eviefrye on plurk
Age: 25+
Current Characters: N/A

Character Name: Aigis
Character Canon: Persona 3
Canon Point: Post-game, before the events of The Answer
Age: Chronologically 10 years old, she appears to be in her late teens and her mental state reflects this.

Crime: Failed to protect the person closest to her.

Background: A link, as they say.

Personality: Initially Aigis's personality is incredible simple. Every aspect of her is robotic, from her speech to the way she carries herself. She doesn't question this, as it's the way she's always been. It's also the way she's supposed to be, you wouldn't ask a toaster why it's not worried about relationships or having fun. Aigis is built for the purpose of destroying shadows and she dedicates herself to that fully. Despite that, Aigis does have a subconscious and finds herself acting on it on multiple occasions, even though she's not aware of it. It's the memories of a past robot, and even further back, the memories of the girl who supplied that robot's personality, that causes Aigis to go to pier on Yakushima. It's here that she meets the protagonist, and that meeting drastically changes Aigis.

Aigis senses something in them, and immediately declares that being with them is her top priority. Unbeknownst to Aigis, she feels this way because ten years ago, she sealed a portion of the shadow Nyx within the protagonist. However, it's not mere programming that attaches her to the protagonist, but a forgotten sense of guilt. On the surface, she appears in love with and obsessed with the protagonist, wanting to touch them and always be close to them, even while they're sleeping. Through her experiences with the protagonist and SEES, she begins to become more human, and care for them all outside of her duties.

Over the course of the game, Aigis regains her memories and struggles with the fact she was the one who forced the protagonist into their role, by literally sealing the embodiment of Death within a child's psyche. Resigning herself to a life as a weapon, she attempts to defeat Nyx herself, only to lose and become badly injured. From this point on, Aigis begins to truly question her identity as a weapon or as a human being. As a weapon, she had failed in the sole reason for her existence. But even so, she found she wanted to live nonetheless, continuing alongside her friends even when things seemed hopeless. Protecting others becomes her new reason to live, a reframed version of her original purpose.

WOO STORY SUMMARY OVER, but really her character development follows a very straight path in accordance with the plot of the game so it's unavoidable. Aigis's personality is seen in snippets early on; she is impressionable, naive, and extremely literal, all in line with her being a robot who's had little exposure to humans. She doesn't understand social cues or norms, even when they're explained to her, often taking the explanations too literally and coming to an even more non-sensical conclusion. She's prone to copying those around her, mostly by repeating their speech mannerisms or literally repeating them right after they've spoken. In this way, she at some times acts like a child, the kind of person who would absolutely see a character do a thing in a book and then attempt to do it herself. Aigis is extremely kind and worried about those around her, and she'll go out of her way to help others even if  this means chasing down a dying cat.

As she develops, she becomes much more self conscious and frets over the fact she is not a real human. This becomes worse as she falls in love with the protagonist and realizes that her love extends beyond her selfless need to protect them. She's in fact become very selfish and jealous, wanting them to love her the same as a human, while believing she doesn't deserve it. When romanced by the female protagonist, she states that she knows the protagonist should be with a human man, and despite that, she wants to be with her more than anything else. This can be further seen in the Answer, when Aigis's human side splits into another robot. This other self is childish and needy, never wanting to be left alone, showing the feelings Aigis tries to hide.

At her canonpoint, Aigis is attempting to ignore her grief from losing the protagonist and accept her life as a weapon, even planning to quit high school and return to the lab. This is also a childish reaction, showing how Aigis can be very all-or-nothing. Either she gets her happily ever after with her love, or she might as well not be human. Add in the fact they died in her arms and she failed to protect them and well... extremely sad robot!

Abilities: Aigis is a weapon designed to destroy shadows, her entire body is made for combat. Being made of steel, it's difficult to damage her or kill her by normal means, as she is able to be repaired and rebuilt. Her body is loaded with firearms, most notably bullets that shoot out of her fingertips. While she's also occasionally shown with cannons and other weapons, I don't plan on using those in Expiation since they come out of nowhere and are mostly flashy for special attacks, rather than any narrative purpose.

As an anti-shadow weapon, Aigis is able to summon a Persona, one of the few ways of combatting shadows. Unlike other characters in Persona 3, she doesn't need to use an Evoker as the function is built into her body. At her canonpoint, she has awakened to her Ultimate Persona, Pallas Athena

Aigis is also capable of entering Orgia Mode, which buffs her stats for a short amount of time, though Aigis is unable to hear commands as she's acting on a sort of auto-mode. After using Orgia Mode, her body overheats and she is unable to move until recovering.

Random robot abilities: she can speak with animals and doesn't need to eat or drink.

Inventory:
  • Gekkoukan winter uniform
  • A ribbon given to her by the scientist Yuu Kimijima
  • A few rounds of ammo, stored in her body

Samples: Link... two! As they say. And three.
