APPLICATIONS
Apps will open on June 23rd at 11:59 am EST
Player Cap: 30/70
Before you submit your application, please review the Applications and Reserves section of the info / faq page, as there are additional rules regarding malleable protagonists, CRAU characters, fandom OCs, canon caps, player caps, and other important things to note. Applications will be processed in the order they are received and after the application cycle closes. We will only accept as many players as we have player slots, however, we will review all applications submitted during the cycle. Application cycles are not first come first serve, and instead will be judged on clarity of the app and samples. Application revisions will have three days to submit adjustments. If not submitted in time, they will have to wait until the next application cycle to resubmit. Application rejections will have to wait until the next application cycle to resubmit unless otherwise specified in the original rejection. You may either post your application in a comment to this post, or link to it from your character journal. Please use the following format for your comment in the subject line: CHARACTER | CANON | RESERVED / NOT RESERVED There is a limit of 2 characters initially maximum that can be played. (You can redeem additional character slots by way of the rewards page.) As with reservations, you may apply for 2 characters at a time. Proxy applications are not accepted. We do not accept application challenges. We do not accept duplicate characters. We only accept applications for 1 malleable protagonist in a cast. Malleable protagonists may not have preexisting relationships with other characters from their canon aside from base storyline. (Exceptions will potentially be made for CRAUs and handled on a case-by-case basis.) Fandom OC characters are accepted, but may not have preexisting relationships with other characters from their canon. (Exceptions will potentially be made for CRAUs and handled on a case-by-case basis.) CRAU characters are accepted, however, must not be so removed from their original canon state that they are unrecognisable. CRAU characters who carry a multitude of prior games may only carry over memories, relationships, and experiences from their most recent game. |
APPLICATION FORM
Player: Contact: Age: Current Characters: If applicable. Character Name: Character Canon: If applicable. Canon Point: Age: Crime: All characters are accused of a crime upon their arrival, and it's printed on their indestructible parchment. This crime can be fitting of your character or ill-fitting. It can be a crime they've committed or a crime they would never commit. Consider that Expiation's definition of crimes may not mirror reflect what we think of when we consider crime in the real world. Feel free to think a little out of the box and more abstract. Fiction versus reality here doesn't so much make a difference. Please choose one crime, bearing in mind that there may be occasions in which the crime chosen could affect how a character interacts with certain events or situations. Background: You may provide a link to a wiki, for canon characters. If your wiki has limited information, or your character may not have much canon behind them, you are expected to write supplemental details without leaning too heavily into headcanon. For OCs, you don't need to provide an overly verbose background, just enough to give an accurate portrayal of the world they come from and definitive experiences that are important to their character. For CRAUS, please specify additional information about what they are carrying over from their prior game. This can also be limited to definitive experiences and relationships. Personality: Although this game heavily relies on the analysis and reflection of a character, we don't expect a dissertation. Please provide information on your character's motivations, how their relationships and experiences have affected or shaped them, and other related information. You may use character dialogue to further showcase this, but it's not expected. If you find it easier to use bullet point formats, feel free to do that. Please do not exceed 800 words. Abilities: If your character has any special abilities (magic, weapon skills, and so on), please list them here. Remember that world-breaking abilities will be diluted. Inventory: A list of inventory that your character is carrying on them can be put here. Characters will not have access to an infinite hammer space, so please only list things that would make sense for your character to be physically carrying. Samples: Two recent samples from the last year are required and must adequately convey a character's voice. In a thread, we prefer at least five comments from you. At least one sample must be from the current TDM post. Other threads may be taken from bakerstreet, other games, or other memes. During application review, not only will we be judging for characterization, but also longevity and completion of threads. Not all threads have to be finished before being submitted, but the mod team would like to see an effort in furthering the thread if it's not completed. Questions: If you have any questions for the mod team, please include them here and we will address them during the processing of your application. |
Tifa Lockhart | Final Fantasy VII: Remake | Reserved
Contact:
Age: 30
Current Characters: N/A
Character Name: Tifa Lockhart
Character Canon: Final Fantasy VII: Remake
Canon Point: Post the events of chapter 9 of Rebirth, when she passes out after being brought out of the Lifestream.
Age: 20
Crime: Eco-terrorism.
Background: Her early life, pre-events of the games. And a summary of the Remake continuity.
Her wiki doesn’t cover much of Rebirth yet, so here’s a brief run-down of her important moments:
• While staying in Kalm, the group gathers to hear from Cloud and Tifa about the Nibelheim incident and their history with Sephiroth. They take turns telling the story, with Tifa growing noticeably wary about the details that Cloud gives. Afterwards, she pulls Cloud aside to talk, only for him to imply that she must be an imposter because when he saw her wounds back then he figured she was dead. Unbeknownst to her, this is due to Sephiroth’s influence, but she still shows him her scar as proof and explains how she was saved by Zangan. She’s hurt and disappointed by Cloud’s lack of trust.
• The group spend much of their journey following the black cloaked figures, ex-test subjects of Hojo’s that share Jenova’s cells and that Sephiroth controls, all in an attempt to track down the man himself.
• While in the Junon Region, the group runs into Yuffie, who tells them that she’s been hired to assassinate the new Shinra president, Rufus, and asks them to join her. While they refuse, they still follow her to the Shinra controlled top level of the city to try and stop her. Tifa, Cloud and Aerith pose as Shinra troopers and join the drill team in the parade celebrating Rufus’ presidency in the hopes of winning the ‘prize’ that will get them face-to-face with Rufus.
• They win, but Rufus recognizes them immediately as the fugitives he’s been looking for. Still, he’s willing to make them a deal that if they agree to keep looking for Sephiroth, he’ll clear their names. However, before the deal can be sealed, Yuffie makes her attempt on Rufus’ life, but misses, and Tifa and co are believed to be a part of the plot, and they must make a run for it.
• Eventually, the team is lead by the robed figures to Gongaga, where they find that its reactor core has filled up with a large amount of mako energy, and submerged in its depths is a weapon of the planet, a large whale-like creature that supposedly only appears when the planet is in danger. A Shinra team, led by Scarlet, arrives at the reactor to capture the weapon, but are confronted by Cloud and co.
• Tifa steps into the fight to battle Scarlet head-on but ends up in a tight spot where she has to grapple-hook to safety. Cloud, worried for her safety, rushes over to help, but is confronted with multiple Shinra troopers. Sephiroth exerts his influence over Cloud, pushing him to slaughter them. Horrified by the sight, Tifa tries to stop him, only for him to turn on her. To avoid his attack, she falls over the ledge into the mako pit below.
• She wakes up in the belly of the weapon, which is crystalized mako, allowing her to see what is going on around her. She witnesses a battle between the black Whispers that have been tormenting her group, led by Sephiroth, and the white Whispers that appear to be fighting for the planet. But she’s unable to tell who is winning. She also sees into her own memories, learning that Cloud had followed her up Mt. Nibel when they were kids and had tried to save her when she fell and got hurt, eventually forgetting the whole incident. Eventually, the weapon re-emerges and returns Tifa to her friends before she loses consciousness.
Personality: Tifa, at a glance, exudes positive energy and kindness at first meeting. She’s the kind of person to strike up a conversation with anyone and immediately have them feeling at ease. Part of this comes from years of doing odd jobs in Midgar’s lower sectors, and then taking over the bar, Seventh Heaven, which made her familiar with dealing with strangers of all kinds until they no longer felt like strangers. However, she has always felt a strong pull towards building and contributing to her community, such as when she took over teaching the calisthenics class for her town’s elders, or became the de-facto town tour guide, greeting tourists and showing them around. Tifa tends to veer into trying to please everyone she meets territory, something Red VIII points out to her, but she says it’s because she wants “peace of mind”. Simply put, she hates the thought of inconveniencing people, or leaving them in a bind, and will do anything she can to help others.
She’s a natural nurturer, from helping Barret raise his daughter, Marlene, to being the first person in her party to check in on someone and ask how they’re doing. Tifa can be very perceptive about the feelings of others because she’s always watching closely and paying attention to changes in mood, especially of those in her group. When the group travels to Barret’s hometown, she’s immediately concerned about him, especially because she can tell he’s holding his feelings back. But Tifa isn’t the type to pry and force people to open up to her. Instead, she just keeps an eye out so that she can be there when they eventually need her.
Despite appearing so open, Tifa is someone who also holds a lot of herself back, except to a small few she feels she can trust, like Aerith who she comes to confide in. She tries to play peacemaker among her group, but this comes at the cost of not always expressing how she feels. Despite the other members of AVALANCHE knowing that her heart hasn’t been in it lately, it’s not them that she discloses her feelings of unrest to, but Cloud, an outsider to the situation. Even when she tries to broach deeper subjects, it tends to be in the most careful way possible, with her speaking in a roundabout way before saying what she means. But that isn’t to say that Tifa masks her emotions. In fact, she has an almost non-existent poker face, and what she’s feeling tends to play across her expression whether she likes it or not. But she is a pro at misdirection, quickly gathering herself and steering conversations in a different direction or avoiding certain topics. Even so, she can be prompted to anger when her feelings are hurt, and she tends to forget about softening the blow. In the face of Cloud’s accusation of her being an imposter she’s quick to point out all the people who were there to help save her before asking Cloud “where were you”.
The Nibelheim incident impacted her greatly, prompting her loathing for Shinra and Sephiroth for years. Consumed by thoughts of revenge, she joined AVALANCHE not to save the planet but because she wanted to take something from them like they took from her. But Tifa, in her heart, isn’t a vengeful person, and her pain only increased from seeing innocent people get caught up in their aftermath. Even employees of Shinra are seen as worth saving in Tifa’s eyes because she doesn’t want to see anymore needless death. The destruction of Sector 7, while the fault of Shinra, is still something Tifa feels responsible for, as it was AVALANCHE’s actions that pushed them to sacrifice the sector. Without her revenge to fuel her, all she has to push her forward is her guilt and the hopes that by stopping Shinra and Sephiroth for good, she can make up for what they’ve lost.
Abilities:
• Martial Arts: Tifa is a practitioner of Zangan-style martial arts, which places an emphasis on strength and speed. She utilizes various combos of kicks and punches to take down her foe. Her strength rivals a lot of men, but it is only with materia that she is able to go beyond the limits of human strength.
• Materia: Most people in her universe have the ability to use materia, which are crystal-like orbs made up of mako energy, an energy that comes directly from the planet. These orbs allow the user to perform magic spells, summon helpful spirits to assist them in battle, and enhance their physical abilities such as their strength, speed, and endurance. Tifa’s gloves have two built in slots for materia, limiting the amount she can use at a time.
• Bar Owner: Before going on the run, Tifa owned a bar named Seventh Heaven. Her duties there have made her a skilled bartender, competent cook, and a savvy financial planner. She managed to save up the funds to buy the bar while juggling a massive debt and assisted Barret in financing their cell of Avalanche.
Inventory:
• Her usual outfit: layered black and white tank tops, black bike shorts under a black skirt accessorized with a belt and suspenders, with thigh high black stockings and red boots. On her arms she wears black arm sleeves and leather gloves with built in materia slots. She wears a red leather vambrace on her left arm.
• (2) materia, both Rank 1: chakra, giving Tifa a low level ability to self-heal, and wind, an elemental magic materia.
Samples: TDM 1, TDM 2
