ENCYCLOPEDIA: FLORA OF ALDRIP

As there are a great number of characters from Earth or some version of it, there are predominately Earth-style plants. Below is just a fraction of what can be found in this world, but feel free to handwave more than what's below. They're just ideas! ~~and some of your mod's favorite plants~~

WOODY PLANTS

BOUGAINVILLEA A genus of thorny ornamental vines, bushes, and trees belonging to the four o' clock family, Nyctaginaceae. They generally grow in warm, bright colours, such as pink, magenta, purple, red, orange, white, or yellow, but it has also been spotted in a cool blue. Curiously, this rare variant can be seen growing near Astralin's farm, but appears to be on personal property.

CREPE MYRTLE Crepe myrtles boast year-round appeal, but in the heat of summer they show their true colors, from red and pink to lavender, purple, and white. They may be seen in more intense colors as well, such as orange or yellow. Crepe myrtle trees grow to about 9 to 12 meters tall (~30-40ft), while bush varities mature to approx 1.2 to 4.5 meters tall (~4-15ft). They tolerate most soil conditions with good drainage.

CYPRESS Cypress trees are a large classification of conifers, encompassing a wide range of trees, from towering giants to compact shrubs from the cypress family (Cupressaceae). Many cypress trees have needle-like, evergreen foliage and acorn-like seed cones, which can be readily seen dropped onto the ground wherever they grow. They thrive in diverse habitats, including forests, swamps, and even arid landscapes.

HYDRANGEA Hydrangea, commonly named the hortensia, grow in flowerheads (corymbs or panicles) most often at the ends of the stems. Most are shrubs between 1 to 3 meters tall (3'3" – 9' 10"), but some are small trees, and others lianas reaching up to 30 meters (~100') by climbing up trees. They can be either deciduous or evergreen, though the widely cultivated temperate species are all deciduous.

The flowers of many hydrangea act as natural pH indicators, sporting blue flowers when the soil is acidic and pink ones when the soil is alkaline.

JAPANESE MAPLE In their natural habitat, Japanese maples grow in the understory. Most prefer part shade, especially in hotter climates, but they will also grow in heavy shade. Some will tolerate full sun, more so at higher latitudes and less at lower latitudes; red, purple-red, black-red, bronze, and some dark green variants are generally more full sun tolerant. Variegated white, cream, yellow, yellow-orange, or light green variants mostly require shade protection.

Almost all are adaptable and blend well with companion plants often seen growing alongside them. The trees are particularly suitable for borders and ornamental paths because the root systems are compact and not invasive.

ROSES Roses are a woody, perennial flowering plant that form groups of plants that can erect shrubs, climbing or trailing, with stems that are often armed with sharp thorns. Their flowers vary in size and shape and are usually large and showy, in colours ranging from white through yellows and reds. They range in size from compact, miniature roses, to climbers that can reach 7 meters in height (~23ft).

Different species hybridize easily, and this has been used in the development of the wide range of garden roses.

WINTER IRISES Also known as the Algerian iris, this flowering plant sports grassy evergreen leaves and pale lilac or purple blooms. They grow to about 30 centimeters (~12 in). As per its name, they appear and thrive in the winter and early spring.

In some places, they are said to bring "good news" and "hope."

POPPIES Poppies are annual, biennial or short-lived perennial plants. Some species are monocarpic, dying after flowering. They can be over a meter tall with flowers up to 15 centimeters across, each of which typically carry 4 or 6 petals. Their petals are showy, may be of almost any color and some have markings. The petals are crumpled in the bud and as blooming finishes, the petals often lie flat before falling away.

Poppies can typically be seen blooming from spring into early summer.

NONNATIVE SPECIES

As characters from different worlds appear, so too will the flora from those worlds. Flora that come from canons represented in the game will be more common, but others may pop up from time to time as well. Players are encouraged to leave a comment and submit new species from their canons to be added to the encyclopedia.

BLAST CONES Canon: Arcane

Originally seen on Runeterra. Blast Cones are a type of plant with explosive fruit. Their explosive properties are powerful enough to fling a humanoid several meters away. Mostly seen in forests.

DUSKPETALS Canon: Arcane

Originally seen on Runeterra. The Duskpetal are flowers that grow on edges of cliffs on Mount Targon. Duskpetals only bloom at night, during a full moon. Their petals are predominantly purple and pink and they give off a faint magical blue light. The fragrance of the Duskpetal is said to be sweet and unique, but fleeting, as the flower is as delicate as moonlight itself.

EGGPLANT KNIGHT Canon: Final Fantasy XIV

Part of the Mandragora Court. An old wives' tale states that if you eat too much of this vegetable, you will turn into one. Perhaps that is what happened here...?

House Eggplant has faithfully served the royal line of Tomato kings for eighteen generations, never once betraying the throne...until, that is, the knight of the nineteenth generation laid eyes on the fair Mandragora Queen.

GARLIC JESTER Canon: Final Fantasy XIV

Part of the Madragora Court. The son of a traveling mummer who performed under the name Garlic Star, the jester swore he would never follow in the footsteps of his father. However, after being deemed too malodorous to serve in the royal guard, he swallowed his pride and fell back on the only trade he knew.

GYSAHL GREENS Canon: Final Fantasy

Primarily chocobo feed, and in fact, it is one of their favorite foods. They are a leafy vegetable similar to lettuce or cabbage.

HONEYFRUIT Canon: Arcane

Originally seen on Runeterra. Honeyfruit is a type of edible plant seen harvested near the city of Palclyff. Its healing properties are also used for medicinal purposes such as Health potions. Being a semi-aquatic plant, it can be seen on the shores of rivers, lakes, and other bodies of fresh water.

An edible herb that grows near magical activity. On Azeroth, it's an ingredient in “Delicious Chocolate Cake^TM.” It can be used to make mana potions.

Head of the Madragora Court. Destined to a life with a man she did not love, nary a night passed when the Mandragora Queen did not dream of throwing herself into the sea's eternal embrace...until, that is, she laid eyes on the noble Eggplant Knight.

Part of the Madragora Court. After learning his parents married not for love, but for duty, the Onion Prince vowed he would never walk in the footsteps of his parents, and to this day promises his baseborn sweetheart, the Leek Maid, that they will run away and be wed.

An herb that grows alongside Mageroyal, possibly parasitically. It can be made into tea, as well as speed potions.

Head of the Mandragora Court. After the flames of the Calamity rendered Lord Tomato a king without a kingdom, the ruby red regent packed up his seeds and set out on a journey to find a new land to rule. He currently roams the realm recruiting any taproot, tuber, or corm who will follow his standard.

Flowers that glow with an ethereal light. They react to emotion and will change color depending on the emotions of the person or person(s) closest to them.

A shrub with a parrot for a head used for deceiving and confusing targets by imitating speeches or voices from others.

Lunar Tear Canon: Nier Automata

A glowing white moonflower. Considered to be extremely rare and difficult to cultivate, this flower is said to be able to grant any wish.
