APPLICATIONS

APPLICATIONS ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED
Apps will open on June 23rd at 11:59 am EST

Player Cap: 52/70

RESERVES | APPS

Before you submit your application, please review the Applications and Reserves section of the info / faq page, as there are additional rules regarding malleable protagonists, CRAU characters, fandom OCs, canon caps, player caps, and other important things to note.

Applications will be processed in the order they are received and after the application cycle closes. We will only accept as many players as we have player slots, however, we will review all applications submitted during the cycle. Application cycles are not first come first serve, and instead will be judged on clarity of the app and samples.

Application revisions will have three days to submit adjustments. If not submitted in time, they will have to wait until the next application cycle to resubmit.

Application rejections will have to wait until the next application cycle to resubmit unless otherwise specified in the original rejection.

You may either post your application in a comment to this post, or link to it from your character journal.

Please use the following format for your comment in the subject line:
CHARACTER | CANON | RESERVED / NOT RESERVED

There is a limit of 2 characters initially maximum that can be played. (You can redeem additional character slots by way of the rewards page.) As with reservations, you may apply for 2 characters at a time.

Proxy applications are not accepted.

We do not accept application challenges.

We do not accept duplicate characters.

We only accept applications for 1 malleable protagonist in a cast. Malleable protagonists may not have preexisting relationships with other characters from their canon aside from base storyline. (Exceptions will potentially be made for CRAUs and handled on a case-by-case basis.)

Fandom OC characters are accepted, but may not have preexisting relationships with other characters from their canon. (Exceptions will potentially be made for CRAUs and handled on a case-by-case basis.)

CRAU characters are accepted, however, must not be so removed from their original canon state that they are unrecognisable. CRAU characters who carry a multitude of prior games may only carry over memories, relationships, and experiences from their most recent game.

Crime: All characters are accused of a crime upon their arrival, and it's printed on their indestructible parchment. This crime can be fitting of your character or ill-fitting. It can be a crime they've committed or a crime they would never commit. Consider that Expiation's definition of crimes may not mirror reflect what we think of when we consider crime in the real world. Feel free to think a little out of the box and more abstract. Fiction versus reality here doesn't so much make a difference. Please choose one crime, bearing in mind that there may be occasions in which the crime chosen could affect how a character interacts with certain events or situations.

Background: You may provide a link to a wiki, for canon characters. If your wiki has limited information, or your character may not have much canon behind them, you are expected to write supplemental details without leaning too heavily into headcanon. For OCs, you don't need to provide an overly verbose background, just enough to give an accurate portrayal of the world they come from and definitive experiences that are important to their character. For CRAUS, please specify additional information about what they are carrying over from their prior game. This can also be limited to definitive experiences and relationships.

Personality: Although this game heavily relies on the analysis and reflection of a character, we don't expect a dissertation. Please provide information on your character's motivations, how their relationships and experiences have affected or shaped them, and other related information. You may use character dialogue to further showcase this, but it's not expected. If you find it easier to use bullet point formats, feel free to do that. Please do not exceed 800 words.

Abilities: If your character has any special abilities (magic, weapon skills, and so on), please list them here. Remember that world-breaking abilities will be diluted.

Inventory: A list of inventory that your character is carrying on them can be put here. Characters will not have access to an infinite hammer space, so please only list things that would make sense for your character to be physically carrying.

Samples: Two recent samples from the last year are required and must adequately convey a character's voice. In a thread, we prefer at least five comments from you. At least one sample must be from the current TDM post. Other threads may be taken from bakerstreet, other games, or other memes.

During application review, not only will we be judging for characterization, but also longevity and completion of threads. Not all threads have to be finished before being submitted, but the mod team would like to see an effort in furthering the thread if it's not completed.

Questions: If you have any questions for the mod team, please include them here and we will address them during the processing of your application.

Age: 30+

Character Name: Rafal
Character Canon: Fire Emblem Engage
Canon Point: Just before the final battle with Sombron
Age: Thousands of years old, physically in his early 20s

Crime: Wiping out all the denizens of a world, rendering it effectively β€œdead”

Background: Wiki

Personality:
Pride: Rafal has a strong amount of pride in being a dragon and being himself. Due to his upbringing where he had to pretend to be β€œNil”, constantly acting weak and soft. Once he revealed himself, Rafal swung strongly towards holding onto his true self. To him, that means he is blunt and abrasive and truthful, though rarely malicious and cruel. Sometimes he fails to grasp the feelings of others, but his proud and harsh comes from a place of insecurity after many centuries pretending to be someone else.

And in many ways, it is a mask. Rafal feels an intense grief and pain over his actions. Because of this, he doesn’t consider himself to possess much worth, calling himself irredeemable and shying away from anyone who may even consider saying otherwise. He doesn’t think much of his life and his future, as long as he lays it down in the service of life and the person who gave him a second chance, the Divine Dragon.

Repetent: Due to his crimes of murder and destruction upon his world, Rafal is very determined to be penitent and helpful. He is willing to perform any boon and deed that will help others and he is not interested in forgiveness or thanks as long as his deeds can be accepted. Sometimes he is a little too forward about the horrible actions he has taken, hoping that he will cut off any desire for people to feel sympathy towards him. Rafal will never dodge his accountability, but he sometimes leans too far, punishing himself from feeling he could be allowed any leeway.

Humour: Despite his circumstances, Rafal does possess a wicked sense of humour. He enjoys practical jokes (nothing hurtful or painful) and enjoys watching the reactions of people around him. He will sometimes play up his bloodthirstiness and brutality, even though he rarely behaves that way anymore or give people trick sweets and candies in order to watch them flounder while he laughs. With a love for horror stories and dark jokes, Rafal often plays up being the terrible dragon.

Honest: Rafal never disguises or hides his intentions as if to make up for his past manipulations and actions. That often translates to a bluntness that is not particularly friendly or welcoming, but he never shies away from anything. His opinion is not something he holds back on. Any topic, no matter how difficult, he’s willing to discuss. And while he still struggles with being forthright emotionally, pushing it away, Rafal will take the pains to confront himself and his own issues and come forward with them. He’s never bitter about apologies and never careless with other people’s secrets.

Abilities:
The Corrupted: One of Rafal’s abilities is resurrecting the dead. He can bring back anyone and they survive through his will. Sometimes they do not even realize they’re dead, sometimes they are his willing servants.

Transformation: With his dragonstone, Rafal can turn into a dragon and emit a blast of power. He can also fly.

Basic magic: Rafal can do basic magic like tracking spells and locating lost object spells.

Fighter: Rafal is trained in the ways of combat as a capable and lethal fighter.

Age: 32
Current Characters: Rolo Lamperouge

Character Name: Saralegui
Character Canon: Kyou Kara Maou!
Canon Point: End of season 3 episode 36
Age: 17

Crime: Perfidy

Background: The wiki is extremely barebones but I have a whole background writeup over here.

Personality: By all outward appearances, Saralegui is just the young and charismatic king of the country of Small Shimaron. He's fair in his rule, intelligent and responsible despite his age, and well-liked by his people. He's kind and charming and strives for peace – the sort of king that really cares about his people, rather than simply enjoying the luxury that such power brings.

In reality, however, Saralegui is a manipulative schemer. He plays nice with others not out of genuine kindheartedness, but because keeping up a good reputation helps him most in the cutthroat politics of his world. Saralegui doesn't shy away from using others to accomplish his goals and he's both intelligent enough and powerful enough to get away with it – "powerful" in this case referring less to his rank and more to the hypnotic magic he can work with his eyes. He doesn't even need that much of the time though, more interested in the challenge of doing things the old-fashioned way. When asked why he goes to extremes like orchestrating his own near-death to manipulate the protagonist when he could simply use his powers for the same purpose, Saralegui simply answers that it's more fun going without it. He's extremely intelligent, plotting moves out far in advance and predicting the moves on others accurately in order to make all his plotting work, and with his hypnotic abilities to fall back on, he's willing to make extremely risky gambles that always seem to work out for him in the end. It seems like having his powers to fall back on just makes him bold and almost reckless, always confident that he can just sidestep any real danger with his mind-control if things don't go his way.

It isn't a lie that he cares for his country, but even that has a selfish root – he grew up almost entirely ignored by his father and it created a craving for acknowledgement and attention in him, a spiteful need to be a greater king than his father was. Between that apparent indifference from his father and his mother having been entirely absent from his life, he has something of an abandonment complex. And going from feeling so completely unwanted to having people vying for his favor as a king has left him deeply jaded – people always have ulterior motives, as far as he's concerned, and the concept of love is a pretty lie. How could he believe in something like that, after all, when his own parents, the people who should have loved him unconditionally and before all others, wanted nothing to do with him?Β

On a casual level, he ranges from sincerely affable to incredibly two-faced. He's very focused on appearances and often lies or sticks to polite surface interactions to maintain that persona of a sweet and pleasant young ruler, but it's not as if everything he does always has such ulterior motives. He's very much capable of being friendly and getting along with others, and when there are no high stakes involved he can actually be pretty great for intelligent conversation or flirting or joking around. As long as things remain on a lighthearted surface level, he can be fairly genuine and likable without issue – it's getting deeper than that where things can get messy.

The only person he trusts absolutely is his bodyguard, Belias, and that's a trust built up over more than a decade of loyal servitude, and Belias entered his life early enough that Saralegui was still young and desperate enough to cling to whatever attention he was given. He takes that trust to an extreme, even putting his life in his bodyguard's skilled hands (and not just in the sense of protection, but even intentionally shooting him with a goddamn arrow). For everyone else, however, he's skeptical of others as a rule and prone to suspecting people of having ulterior motives than simply accepting the kindness of a stranger.

Despite everything he's done, Saralegui isn't exactly a villain. He does bad things, sometimes cruel things, but his intentions are at least somewhat decent. He has a very "ends justify the means" attitude, which is why he could so easily trick his only friend, the pacifistic Yuuri, into destroying entire armies for him on two separate occasions – it might hurt Yuuri, yes, but it gets rid of the threat of Large Shimaron's forces without having to send a single soldier into battle, and if it manages to kill off Large Shimaron's king in the process, then that just means he can claim the throne himself and definitely end all the fighting between humans and demons.

Abilities:
- He has a power that allows him to more or less hypnotize other people. It seems to require eye contact (at least initially) and as he always removes his glasses before using it, most likely can't penetrate even transparent surfaces. The commands given don't have to be verbal, and resistance to them is based on willpower, but it should be noted that the ability is very powerful, with only the Demon King ever being shown actually breaking free from it. He doesn't seem to like abusing this power, however, as it's only ever brought out in situations he can't somehow manipulate through other means.
- According to the novels, he can see in the dark.

Inventory:
- The Divine Sword of Seisakoku, a powerful magic sword that can apparently only be used at all by half-humans (but only Saralegui has been able to truly control it and make full use of its power). It normally provides life-energy to a whole country and that same power can use used for things like healing, pouring magic energy into a person, and rapid growth of plantlife for miles around, as well as creating a magic barrier and teleporting across a city for some reason. The sword's abilities are pretty vague and wide in scope and we only see it do most of these things like once, but fortunately Saralegui is not very inclined to making frequent use of such powers πŸ™ƒ

Questions: Please let me know if any nerfing is required! Between his basically-an-unlimited-Geass and the magic sword, I would understand completely lol

Crime: Vagrancy

Background: Wiki link for the run-of-the-mill character stories.
Click here for the events of his companion mission in point form.
🌹 Before the story begins Argenti has a fateful encounter with Veliteβ€”an IPC worker who he finds in trouble in a huge cave. After making Velite swear to follow Idrila he rescues him and diverts the course of his own space ship to take him home.
🌹 This doesn't go as planned as he rear-ends the Astral Express by accident. Both vessels have actually been swallowed by a giant space bug (known as part of "The Swarm"). Argenti boards the express to temporarily join the crew in figuring out what happened.
🌹 After introducing himself to the MC and March 7th they engage in honorable combat as one does. This is proper etiquette for the Knights of Beauty allegedly. He says please if I win you gotta accept my God, alright? This gets interrupted halfway by Welt however because the situation outside of the vessel is developing.
🌹 Argenti is here to help after all. It was always his main reason for being here. He was just enjoying the present moment. In his own words he's there to "discover an inharmonious pitch" which he is then going to destroy.
🌹 True Strings, which are some comparatively smaller creatures belonging to The Swarm find their way onto the ship and start to cause hallucinations for multiple members. Argenti is included in this as the astral express crew finds him chatting away with one of them that he sees as a wubbabboo because he thinks those must be "delightful ball(s) of pure charm." To this hallucination he announces that if he cannot solve whatever is happening on the express then he will happily die for the glory of the knights. Naturally, the express crew sweeps in to interrupt this.
🌹 They all discover that they're inside of and being slowly digested by a giant sting due to rumbling stomach noises. While everyone gets solemn and hunkers down to create a last ditch effort plan Argenti pulls the MC aside to inform them of his plan.
🌹 As a Knight of Beauty he has a duty to fight this battle. His strategy is to exit the express and take on the giant sting alone. As he fights it the express should make their escape. Having convinced the MC to either accept or support his suicidal mission they then pick up on where their honorable battle left off before Welt interrupted it.
🌹 The mission doesn't progress until you defeat Argenti. Which means by canon events he loses that duel, bids the express a heartful farewell, and then goes to fight the giant sting alone.
🌹 After the plan succeeds the express talks about how even though he was pretty delulu Argenti was a pretty good guy. They wonder if he would've been able to survive.
🌹 At the very end he texts them all in a group chat with a "are you all safe and sound? I am sincerely worried." So he did indeed find a way to survive his strategy against the odds. He swears that the light of The Beauty protected him but, like, Idrila is dead or missing so who knows? Mystery. He certainly doesn't remember what happened after a certain point. Regardless he also meets up again with Velite to make sure he gets home so he really is the real deal when it comes to honor.

Personality:

Devoted- There are actually too many examples that I could show here. One of the best ones is the fact that Argenti considers all the close calls he has with death worthwhile because it gets him closer to even getting a glimpse of Idrila, the Aeon of Beauty.
"In the pursuit of defending beauty I have bled into unconsciousness... and in the ensuing stupor I have witnessed countless times their traces spreading from beneath my feet β€” reaching into the unknown before me."

That devotion is so strong that he forgoes things like settling down in a home or finding a place of belonging although it's very clear in his dialogue with the main character that he admires these things and wishes to protect them for others. He sees safeguarding all beauty in the universe as an obligation that he must never abandon no matter how much suffering it might inflict on himself.

"Until I see that light once more...I will protect all beauty in the universe. For Idrila."

Often times Argenti expresses that he must spread the glory of The Beauty in their absence, or at least until he can find them again. Quite literally taking the ideals of a faction that's loyal to that aeon onto himself and how he lives his life. This duty extends to his fourth character story where he takes it on himself to put down his old friend, who was also once a knight who spoke encouraging words to him. He must do so because that old friend has lost sight of honor, and has become an unthinking beast that has succumbed to evil temptations.

Noble- It's all a part of the package of being a Knight of Beauty. To this effect he is forthright and candid, he will show mercy when it's the honorable thing to do. Knights of Beauty travel the universe as solitary representatives of The Beauty so Argenti takes the duty of upholding and demonstrating these tenets very seriously. At the conclusion of the character mission "Night of Universal Hallucinations" he insists on taking on the giant sting alone so everyone else on the Astral Express can make their escape.

In an in-character Q&A Argenti states that since he is expected to travel alone across the cosmos it would be inherently unfair and unjust of him to have a lover; he would feel great pain if he knew there was someone out there waiting for his returnβ€”so to maintain that honor he does not partake in personal romance.

Sincere & Humble- At first it may be difficult to see the guy act the way he does and believe that it's genuinely all him, but truly he's just like this. That's what it means to develop the philosophy that you can see the beauty in most things--especially in times of adversity. The slice of humbleness is big enough that it verges on self-deprecation sometimes. Particularly if he's putting someone else above himself. Again we return to that in-character Q&A where he displays this quality to uplift the image of The Beauty and The Knights of Beauty.

Another example is showcased in Part 1 of his character story.

"I'm too clumsy to master this instrument..."
He murmured in self-deprecation. Yet, after a profound moment of contemplation, a resolute courage ignited within him. He resolved to try once more, to weave a melody.

Argenti uses those moments to fuel his devotion to his aeon (deity) and the path that THEY once walked. He's the kind of guy that if you were to smack him down he'd get back up even more motivated than before.

When you have Argenti in your character roster he also texts you sometimes. He specifically uses some of these interactions to sincerely praise and uplift the main character because "people love to hear compliments."

Abilities:

Manifesto of Purest Virtue - After using the Technique, enemies in a set area are inflicted with Daze for 10 second(s). What this looks like is him lifting his spear into the air and a blinding white light flares out to blind everyone in close proximity.

Apotheosis - Essentially every time he's hit he gets an Apotheosis stack that additionally increases CRIT DMG by 4%.

So Cometh Beauty's Knight - There's nothing too special about this at a glance. It's just an attack that lands on one target but it does aoe damage to multiple targets because it springs up into a bunch of roses and vines.

Spear & Shield -

These are respectfully 2-3 summons that float alongside boss Argenti (usually at or after his second phase). One applies a barrier buff, another increases damage, and the last gives damage boost stacks. Notable when the first entity is killed it applies the same effect to the enemy team. Once the second one is defeated it does friendly fire damage to Argenti. For knight reasons? Perhaps he's a masochist? Probably all of the above applies.

Ultimate - Merit Bestowed in "My" Garden: He has two versions of the same "big damage" attack. Predictably the half charged one does less damage. The fully charged one has several visual and audio cues including but not limited to: glowing golden armor and iridescently shining weapon, the ring of a church bell, and a certified explosion of damaging energy that follows up the first slash.

The technical in game explanation is this: Consumes 180 Energy and deals Physical DMG equal to 168%β€”302.4% of Argenti's ATK to all enemies, and further deals DMG for 6 extra time(s), with each time dealing Physical DMG equal to 57%β€”102.6% of Argenti's ATK to a random enemy.

Inventory:
- Ornate suit of amour
- Spear that's so beautiful it should be impractical and yet
- Dangerously parasocial relationship with his Aeon

idk this isn't a question or anything just character trivia there's no other place for. Since you're my captive audience rn you have to read it. And you can suggest that he have bread with his bread and because he likes and sustains himself on bread so much he goes "Great. Please accept my gratitude."

Crime: Necromancy; violating the laws of Nature to resurrect Jim Kirk

Background: Wiki

Personality:

Blunt vs Compassionate

"Did they teach you bedside manner in medical school?" Kirk asks of Bones, the question that many, many have probably pondered after meeting the man. Bones isn't afraid to tell someone his opinion, both in and outside of a medically-related context, and most of the time he's not about to sugarcoat it. Sometimes irascible, and incredibly passionate, Bones doesn't suffer fools lightly, and isn't the easiest guy to get along with. However, for better or worse, he knows it.

At his core, under all the bluster and snark, Bones has a heart of gold. In ST '09, he gently tends to patients following the destruction of Vulcan. Into Darkness shows his benevolence extends even to those he disdains, determined to keep the sleeping Augments from harm, and handling Khan with care.

Phobic vs Courageous

"Space is disease and danger wrapped in darkness and silence" is a memorable line espoused by Bones in the first film. "[Yorktown Station] looks like a giant snowglobe in space just waiting to break," is another in Beyond, and both give a pretty good insight into Bones's cautious nature. If something looks off, he's gonna let you know how sketchy he finds it, and very possibly come up with a solid idea of how shit could go horribly FUBAR. While this personality quirk of his straddles the funny/frustrating line, it's probably related to his (unsure if self-diagnosed) aviophobia. "It means fear of dying in something that flies!"

Despite that, Bones is not about to let his anxieties stop him. A regular member of away teams, something he could readily delegate to a subordinate, he's ready (though maybe not always willing) to throw himself into danger for the sake of others, showing courage in the face of his fear. Bones had teamed up with Spock during Krall's attack on the Enterprise, leaving the bridge to see to any injured crew. Shortly afterward, he and Spock will get stuck in a turbolift that's unintentionally jettisoned into space... and then promptly hijacked the drone ship that attempts to take him and Spock captive.

Later, faced with the potential of capture and/or painful death, he bellows a challenge to Krall's forces, and he's not only part of the rescue team for the rest of the crew, he's right out front protecting them as Scotty works to get them all transported up.

Cantankerous Asshole vs Loyal Friend

Stubborn as fuck, opinionated, irascible and tenacious, McCoy will stick to his guns and argue until he's blue in the face. In Prime canon, McCoy is a man who literally gets into a morality argument with a god (and declares why They can't possibly be God because of it), so he's generally up for an argument wherever and whenever. He can come off as obnoxious for it, prone to needlessly moralizing, and up for holding a grudge if it comes down to it. While McCoy's relationship with his ex is all amicable respect these years later, he was very clear about his disdain for her in the early days of their divorce, even with his acknowledgment of his own failures. His first real conversation with Spock, after Jim was ejected from the Enterprise, is laced with scathing disapproval.

Despite this, his close relationships tend to flourish. Having known Kirk now for several years, their friendship is strong and solid, proven from the moment Bones stuck his friend with a vaccine and hauled him aboard the Enterprise. Among those he respects, and who respect him in turn, he's charming, funny, and dedicated, though he's still not all sunny disposition- Bones is not about to pat their asses if he thinks they need to hear the truth. Butting heads is all part of the experience, because his loyalty to them, as far as he's concerned, goes unquestioned. Spock's awkward attempts to tell him of his own respect go about as well as you'd think- "I know, Spock, you don't need to say it" -and Kirk's death in Into Darkness shatters him. In the latter case, loss kicks him into high gear for the chance to bring his friend back.

"That's me, Mr Sensitive", he tells Kirk in an intimate conversation, having assured his friend of his worth and purpose in Starfleet. Later, he has an equally close convo with Spock, learning of the death of his alternate-universe counterpart, and his plans to leave Starfleet. In both instances, Bones trades in his prickly shell for understanding and sympathy-- though he's still quick to assume the worst when Spock is moved to laughter.

Oh, and Mr Sensitive still throws a surprise birthday party for his BFF anyway. Aww.

Abilities:

A 100% baseline human, McCoy is a medical doctor and member of Starfleet. After an initial start in an Earth hospital, his move into Starfleet prepared him with the experience and knowledge to treat a wide variety of human and alien ailments that might occur on a starship that visits other worlds. While officially he's a neurosurgeon, with a secondary specialty in trauma, as Chief Medical Officer, Lt. Commander McCoy leads the Enterprise's medical department, a senior officers' position that requires solid leadership, diplomatic, and people skills, and a great degree of coordination with others both inside and outside his department.

McCoy is proficient in hand to hand combat, and is also a decent shot with a phaser, despite his distaste of bothβ€” they were a required course, but he didn't have to like them. At the Academy, he also undertook survival training, and enough command track courses in tactics and navigation to qualify as a helmsman for Kirk's run at the Kobayashi Maru.

While he has flight training, and is a capable pilot, he'd prefer to be anyone's last-of-the-last-choices for this, ever.

Lastly, he has experience in animal handling, as shown in Into Darkness, which. Okay!

Character Name: Ekko
Character Canon: Arcane
Canon Point: Post Episode 9: Before his knowledge about Jinx bombing the Piltover Council and Silco's death.
Age: 19

Crime: Terrorism; Choosing this crime as a means to mess with Ekko's psyche and his self worth in Expiation. Perhaps causing looming self doubt about his personal agenda and second guessing his prior actions back home even if he knows inwardly that his cause with the Firelights are just in nature. Maybe events in the game can screw with his perception of himself? I like to be evil to my muses.

Background: https://leagueoflegends.fandom.com/wiki/Ekko/Arcane

Personality: From a tender age the boy was known for his ingenuity and superior intellect with an affinity for tinkering of all kinds. Widely regarded by his peers as a brilliant mind in spite of his age he took up work in Benzo's shop fixing various gadgetry for his mentor. He even went as far to create unique devices of his own design such as the telescopic looking glass installed within the recesses of the shop's attic along with a crude monocycle which he used to dart around the Lanes flipping off Enforcers joyously. Often getting himself into mischief as he engaged in suspicious activities snooping around Piltover looking for his next mark, the infamous 'Little Man' would dish out his intel collected to Vi and the others as he masterminded their endeavors from afar.

As the events unfold during the time skip, Ekko takes on a leadership role as he creates the Firelights, a 'gang' of rogue misfits who seek to separate themselves from the evil grasp Silco has taken up in the Undercity proper giving his people a safe haven away from the ensuing chaos. Aspiring to save his home from the vicelike grip the tyrant holds on Zaun; Ekko risks life and limb to achieve his goals willing to put everything on the line to stop him showing true bravery even in the face of defeat on multiple occasions. Due to the horrific tragedies faced in his youth after the death of his father figure Benzo, slain in cold blood before his very eyes he becomes a somewhat calloused individual, reserved in his disposition compared to the happy go lucky boy he once was acknowledged for. Unlike Jinx however the loss of his family drives the boy forward, maturing into a stable and honorable individual with the desire to help those less fortunate.

Although he is wary in who he trusts now which is evidently clear when Vi returns back home he harbors the best intentions only wanting what is best for his newfound sanctuary and the Firelights as a whole as he seeks to protect them from harm. Even going so far as to stay in the fight long after telling his comrades to retreat just so they can flee without issue showing disregard for his own safety at times. This leads him to be seen as somewhat reckless on occasion, frustrations getting the best of his usually sound judgement. Certainly not afraid to get his hands dirty, Ekko has no qualms taking things that don't belong to him from Piltover's higher echelon so long as they served a means to his own just cause aiding those with greater need. For he holds a deep seeded hatred towards the top siders and Silco both and is not shy in letting people know it either, distrusting both parties largely in part to how he and his people have been treated over the years. Although he tries to stop the flow of Shimmer whilst alluding the Enforcer's grasp, Ekko and his comrades are branded as terrorists when Silco and his cronies are the ones behind all the crime plaguing Zaun as a whole. Despite this he tries to uphold a sense of justice and goodwill in his own way even with all the allegations thrown at him, heralded as the "Boy Savior" who brought hope to the people of the Undercity where there was little to be had.

In spite of his abrasiveness most of the time there are cracks in his stoic facade when faced with his past friendships, first shown when Vi embraces him upon her capture breaking free of the cuffs, shedding tears of both joy and sorrow having thought lost her too on top of everyone else. This is further accentuated in his epic battle against Jinx on the bridge, using his impressive memorization skills to remember her shooting patterns from the game played in their youth, timing each of his actions without fault down to the very second with the aid of his beloved stopwatch. After ingeniously dodging her shots unto him the boy attacks his counterpart, beating Jinx within an inch of her death before stopping himself upon seeing the distressed look on her face, reminded of the once innocent girl he called friend and hesitates to finish the job due to his idealistic judgment. Known for his pragmatic way of thinking the majority of the time, in that brief moment Ekko believed the childhood confidant he was once fond of to be somewhere in there still, optimistically trying to see the best in her but was unfortunately proven wrong.

Even though his troubled past caused him to become a more reserved, dubious person there are still signs of that gleeful young boy he once was enjoying the little things when and where he can. Still holding a fondness for all things gadgetry and inventing in his spare time, he loves talking nerdy with those who hold common ground such as Heimerdinger which we see a brief glimpse of as the two happily converse in the Firelight's hideout towards the end of the series. All in all, Ekko is a kindhearted individual albeit rough around the edges who just wants what is best for those he cares for and will strive to help his fellow Zaunites to achieve the better lives they all deserve.

Abilities:

Genius Inventor: Ever since he was young working in Benzo's shop the boy has possessed a keen intellect for all things mechanical. May it be fixing something or working on a newfound project of his own design the Zaunite is known to show great promise with his inventions aplenty. Ranging from a crystal grenade that rapidly expands upon hitting its target to trap them in place to a simplistic pocket watch he uses to gauge his precise movements both in battle and strategic planning. These inventions pale in comparison however to his more prized designs however; A mask capable of resisting harmful chemicals and toxins along with a hoverboard presumably of Chemtech make, which can be seen soaring through the skies of Piltover or Zaun with limitless maneuverability.

Hand to Hand Combat: Though he is known for his superior intellect Ekko is no slouch when it comes to fighting in combat scenarios, holding his own against those he comes across in canon. Using brains over brawn the boy savior times his attacks with extreme precision down to the very last second with the aid of his trusted pocket watch, calculating his every move in advance before acting out rashly favoring decisive actions over barbaric force though he can certainly pack a punch.

Sharp Reflexes: What Ekko doesn't make up for with strength he sure as hell does with speed and exactitude in his actions. Shown to be able to turn on a dime riding his hoverboard when pitted against Jinx or Silco's henchmen, dodging both bullets and saving his comrades from plummeting through the air. More impressively perhaps though when fighting against the former upon the bridge used his own personal reflexes to dodge and flip over multiple gunshots aimed at his person with acrobatic precision before leaping forwards into the air going on the offensive.

Inventory: Usual attire. His beloved overcoat covered in various graffiti which holds a few of his stashed crystal grenades which expand over a target upon impact instantaneously. Along with his precious pocket watch which he keeps on his person religiously using it to gauge time in both combat situations and carry out strategic planning down to the last second.

An important note! After discussing in advance with Jinx's mun I have decided to opt out of Ekko arriving with his various tools, weaponry (pipe), Firelight mask and last but not least his beloved hoverboard since they were bestowed and or found by Jinx upon leaving from Expiation in his first bout here to make way for interesting CR situations in the future to reacquire them.

Canon Point: post-Fyxestoll/A Foxian Tale of the Haunted
Age: 19

Crime: Trespassing! A Foxian Tale of the Haunted has her breaking into an area, and in her tragic backstory, her brothers raided a Xianzhou ship so there's a theme of 'trespassing' there as well.

Background: History
Basic 'A Foxian Tale of the Haunted' synopsis, which Guinaifen's really featured in.

Personality: At first glance, Guinaifen comes across as a vivacious, passionate, confident young woman who knows what she wants and to an extent that's pretty accurate? Despite the trauma of her early life (going from a privileged life to seeing her home be destroyed before her eyes, to living in immense poverty, to having her surviving family turn to a life of crime just to keep them fed) Guinaifen has weathered it all really fucking well and came out upbeat and confident.

Maybe a little too well, actually, but I'll get back to that in a second.

Going back to confidence - she's thrown herself into her life aboard the Xianzhou Luofu. She's adopted a new name (birth name Guinevere, Guinaifen is a name given to her by a friend) and a new career as a street performer, entertainer, and streamer. And she's thriving? Despite people noting, hey, maybe she wants to consider getting a real career/"career", Guinaifen is sticking to her dream and she's doing well enough in it that she can keep her belly fed and a roof over her head.

She has no desire to leave the Xianzhou, which in itself might not seem like a big deal, except; the Xianzhou is populated by a lot of long-life species whose lifespans can be measured in the hundreds or even thousands. Guinaifen? She has a normal Earth human life expectancy, give or take medical advancements from the sci fi fantasy setting. She's not immortal, though. She'll age and die in a blink of an eye, compared to her friends who will live for hundreds of years afterwards.

This doesn't seem to bother her. "On the Xianzhou, short-life species like us have a fleeting existence, here one moment and gone the next. That's all the more reason to seize the moment while you still have it!" And it's admirable! Instead of dwelling on her past, Guinaifen is doing her best to live in the present, and have a great time while doing so.

But maybe she could stand to focus a bit more on the past or consider her future a bit more? Guinevere isn't quite a dead name, she's open about who she was and where she comes from, and her internet handle in-universe is LilGuiGuinevere. So it's not a secret.

But when she talks about it, it's either mythologized (she talks about her past in some doggerel, so it's all rhymes or a steady beat) or from the perspective of a cool big sis talking about some past stuff that happened that she's learned important life lessons from and has grown past. She mocks one of her brothers for still preferring to go by his birth name of Lancelot instead of Langshile, and doesn't really get into why he might prefer the name he was born with. (The mockery isn't in a bad way, per se, it's very 'pfft my stick in the mud bro likes Lancelot, pfft.')

When not acting as Guinaifen the Streamer/Performer, Guinaifen tends to occupy niches like the cool older sister, buying people drinks and coming up with plans, but also isn't so responsible she can't do stupid or impulsive things. The plot of A Foxian Tale of the Haunted kicks off by her learning about a haunted area, seeing that the local government is clearly in the area, and still wanting to sneak around the guards, all so she can record film and do it for the kicks. That said, when this leads to consequences? She helps clean up her consequences.

Guinaifen's learned how to handle herself in a fight. She's adapt enough in a fight to not immediately wilt and die, though she prefers to leave the combat to her friend, Sushang. Which also isn't a bad thing? Sushang is an in-universe guard, she's trained for this, she knows how to handle a sword. For all of Guinaifen's assertiveness, she knows when someone else's skill set is better suited to a situation and is 100% prepared to step aside and let them handle it. (They might not be happy about this, though.)

You can't become a legendary streamer without taking a few risks, but that doesn't mean you can't be smart(ish) about them.

All in all, Guinaifen is doing pretty alright, but maybe could benefit from sitting down with a professional and talking about a few things she might be ignoring...? But given the genre, she could be doing a lot worse.

Abilities: Guinaifen's in-game kit revolves around her hitting things with a polearm, and doing area of effect fire damage via firecrackers she pulls from nowhere. Guinaifen can also debuff them by applying burn, which does damage over time - it's like in games like pokemon? Firekiss (her journal name!) refers to a special debuff she can apply that amplifies damage done in general, and also makes the burn immediately flare up for more damage if blah blah blah, does this really matter?

Because this isn't a video game, this is Dreamwidth RP.

How I'd play it in Dreamwidth RP terms: Guinaifen can hit things with her polearm and has a knack for small explosives like firecrackers and small bombs and is really good at throwing them to make them sting. Everything else just seems so needlessly convoluted.

Inventory: Shoes, which more specifically have flint/steel/something on her heels, and that’s what she uses to light fuses and so on. (I know.) So they’re not just shoes, but shoes she can use to start fires.

A polearm. It’s a stick. In terms of weapon damage it’s like a +1 polearm: solid, dependable, but unremarkable in the grand scheme of things. In terms of aesthetics, it’s a +3. It looks cool, and isn’t that important too? It can collapse for easy traveling size, and expand for easy battle moments.

She also wears a small gong and mallet that she uses to draw people to her shows.

Questions: I was about to fuck off for renovations and then this popped up...good timing.
